The SR1 was the first mobile that Mamod made. It's believed that it was based on the "Mastrand" roller, and when compared to one, you can clearly see the connection. The SR1 was first produced in 1961, and was held together by screw fixings. This continued up until 1965, when the company changed to pop rivets. Originally the SR1 had a brass vapourising burner which was pop riveted to the scuttle. That was changed in 1963 to the more common and famous black and silver spirit lamp.
This particular engine was for sale on Ebay.com, and a good friend of mine, IndianaRog, bought it. The same night, Rog and myself had struck a deal.
This engine is very unusual, as it has a rectangular decal under the firebox. I've only ever seen a few like this, and these were all for sale in America, so I'm guessing that the decal was the the earliest export models only.
