How not to restore your engine!
When it comes to this matter, there will always be people who think they know it all, and actually know nothing at all.

The 1st rule is, never ever think that you're better than all the rest, as Tina Turner said. If you think this, then you're instantly going to make a complete hash of any resto job you undertake.

On this page, you will see several attempted and poor quality restorarions from people who think they are just this, God's gift to steam.

You really would have to be such a joke you would call yourself a "guru" to be so arrogant when it comes to poor restorations.

Please note - All legitamet copyright laws were respected when making this page.
First rule:

NEVER brush paint your engine's base!
When painting the base of your engine, always remember to use a spray tin of paint. This will ensure a smooth, even coat of paint, which will dry to form a hard and glossy finish.

The engine shown to the left, was restored by an amature, who decided it would be best to brush paint the engine.

Look closely (not that you have to), see? More runners than the London marathon!

Such a poor restoration.

Make sure you don't fall into the same trap!
Rule 2 - Never use odds and sods that you found lying about.
When doing your restoration, never use children's poster paint!

As can be seen from the photographs on the left, a 5 year old could well have painted this engine. It's been slapped on with an inch thick brush.

The rivets are incorrect too. Does this matter? Well, not really, but it does when you use all different size ones as can be seen in the engine frame mount. Brilliant!
Rule 3 - Just don't do this, PLEASE
