Who is James?
Hi, and a huge welcome into my world!
My name is James Chantry and I live
just outside of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire,
in a small hamlet of around 20 houses.
I'm very proud to come from Lincolnshire,
it is certainly where my heart lies, and I
have lived here all my life. I am 15 years
old and like listening to swing and '30's/40's
music, like Glenn Miller, George Formby
and Frank Sinatra, aswell as English folk
music dating from the 1700/1800 onwards.
I have a sort of farming background, with
my dad working for a large agricultual firm,
and us having a smallholding. I have my
own flock of pedigree, rare breed Lincoln
Longwool sheep, which I also show. I speak English, some French, a bit of Latin and quite fluent German. My "heros" are the late great Fred Dibnah, and Sir Winston Churchill. My hobbies include farming, sheep, steam, aviation, the history and heritage of our great county, and both World War One and World War 2 (The Battle of Britain and D-Day are my particular strong points).

The Unofficial Mamod and Other Steam Forum. I am immensely proud to say that I own and administrate this. We moved their from the former "Official Mamod Forum" on July 19th 2006. In this short space, it has flourished greatly, and it has close to 200 members, and 150,000 posts in one year. The greatest and biggest names in toy/model steam hang out there. I can't take all the glory myself though, no no no, far from it, I'm not like that. The moderators, Mamodman123, IndianaRog, Sandman, and Tmuir, aswell as my co-administrator and good friend Wallace have played a vital role in ensuring that I stay on the straight and narrow, and that this remains the original, largest, friendliest, fastest growing and most welcoming steam forum on the internet.

I have been interested in toy steam engines, in particular Mamod, since September 2005. It started off watching one weekend, when dad and I was watching Fred Dibnah on the television, and dad told me about his Mamod Minor 1 he had when he was a kid. We went to the local antique centre later that day, and my dad bought me a mint Mamod Minor 2 for £20. It progressed from there really. My record was 38 engines plus around 30 accessories (nearly every single one bought by myself, with money earned from working on local farms and buying and selling steam engines on ebay) in just 1 and a half years. Pretty good for a 13/14 year old. Now my collection is home to over 40 engines from England (Mamod, SEL, Bowman, Hobbies), Germany (Wilesco, Fleischmann, Bing), America (Jensen), and Australia (SteamCo).

If you wish to contact me, please feel free to email me at: chantry_james@yahoo.co.uk at any time, and I promise I will respond to you within 24hours.

Many thanks, and please enjoy browsing my world.
